…Divorced, Beheaded, Survived.

If you’d gone to school in England rather than wasting your time elsewhere, you’d recognize this short rhyme as describing the fate of the six wives of Henry the Eighth.

Today, between rain squalls, we had a look at Hever Castle, home of Beheadee #1, Anne Boleyn.

The interior of the castle doesn’t look much like it did in Anne’s day. In fact, it looks a lot more like a cozy modern house than one might expect. That’s largely due to famous American rich guy, William Waldorf Astor. After he finished his posting as the U.S. Ambassador to Italy in the early 20th Century, he bought Hever Castle and renovated it as a private residence. Hence the paneled walls, plaster ceilings, lights, heats, and so on.

This is really one large building built by Astor to house guests.

A rather nice hand-lettered bible.
