It’s not a long walk from our hotel to the Garonne river, but after a day of walking, we decided to make the trip by tram. We got off at Place de la Bourse where we found a young violinist performing a jazzy version of “Killing Me Softly with His Song“, made famous by Roberta Flack in 1973.
This shallow pool gives visitors a chance to see Place de la Bourse reflected in the water.
If they weren’t all sitting with their backs to the view transfixed by their phones.
I couldn’t decide whether I liked the photo of Place de la Bourse across the reflecting pool better with or without the tram, so I’ve included both.
The reflecting pool has some tricks up its sleeve. Every now and then the water drains away and a mist rises. Here’s Mary Anne posing and doing a little dance.
Meet our Bordeaux companions. That’s Dominique and Martine from Orléans on the left, followed by Andy and Danielle who divide their time between the Southeast English coast and Prague.
Andy and I go back to the early Eighties when we met in Hong Kong where he was living. We met Danielle in Prague in 1990 while riding bikes from Berlin to Budapest. Andy met Dominique on an African safari in the mid-Eighties. Mary Anne and I met him (and Martine) in 2000 when the other four of us launched a bike tour of the Loire Valley from their home in Orléans.
Clear?
A party boat passes on the Garonne river.
Pretty cool, huh? I love my new camera.
